In regards gun laws, this person was already not permitted to have a gun, this happened near Chicago, an area with the most stringent gun laws in the world (even worse than Europe).
Are you being serious?
another example of jehovah protects his people except when he doesn't.

i remember having read somewhere, but i cannot find it anymore, that it is possible to debunk the 1914 calculus using only jw publications, like "insight on the scriptures" (chronologies) for example.. do you have any sources about that to suggest to me?.
thanks..
Scholar , Im surprised that a man of your massive intellect, superior knowledge and boundless humility has the time to descend to the depths of us ordinary, simple humans and bestow your greatness upon us.

in reading about the 54 year old man being shot, i was wondering if any of you were ever shot at, or threatened with a gun.. i was in a car group where a woman came out waving around, telling us to get off her land.
in another situation a man told the car group to turn and leave or he was calling the cops.
.
Just the usual 'f*ck off' and stuff like that. I remember one guy ripping into my father because he was 'dragging his kids around in the heat'. It was in Queensland and a tropical 36 degrees celsius at the time so he probably had a point.
mark jones, a witness for over 30 years describes what jws call bible studies offered to the public.. .
"they (jehovah's witnesses) offer you a free home “bible” study - which turns out to be a study of a watchtower publication with the bible brought out as an afterthought to try and prop up whatever current idea the governing body are claiming is “the truth” this week.. i think it’s underhanded.. when my parents became jehovah’s witnesses and they offered people a free home “bible” study, this is what they brought to study with them:.
what, did you think they were going to study the bible with you?.
They would probably shocked to hear it, but JW's have no personal beliefs or convictions of their own.
They are only allowed to believe the latest teachings from the GB - not the bible, regardless of whether those teachings contradict what they believed and preached in the past was truth.
goliath was a big dude, 6 cubits and a span, or about 9 feet 9 inches.
the septuagint version of the bible and the dead sea scrolls, on the other hand, both state his height as 4 cubits and a span, or 6 feet 9 inches.. his armour weighed a bit over 40 kg, about the same weight as a modern soldier would carry.
his spear sounds impressively heavy at 600 shekels, however , this is only about 6 kg (13 lbs), easily carried by a man of average strength, let alone someone with training.. the difference lies in whether we should believe the masoretic version of the bible, or the septuagint.. the masoretic text was written about 1000 years later than the septuagint and it is what the new world translation and a lot of protestant bibles are based on.. although the septuagint was accepted by 1st century jews, it is believed that medieval jews were not happy with the septuagint, as it lent weight to the argument that pointed to jesus as the messiah and they wanted to distinguish the jewish tradition from christianity.. jesus and other new testament writers (whoever they were) quoted the septuagint.. in an effort to support his own world view and to distance himself from the catholic church, martin luther chose the masoretic text over the septuagint on which to base his translation, which is ironic as the masoretic text was written, partly to separate itself from christianity.. when someone says they 'believe the bible', or, they 'live their life on what the bible says'- can that person really explain how they can trust the history and process of whatever bible they believe in came to be?.
'Any chance I get to quote Leolaia's hard work I do'
I agree.
I didn't look up this topic on this site before I posted, I assumed it had been covered in some way already. This kind of stuff is really interesting.

Or was he?

The Masoretic text was written about 1000 years later than the Septuagint and it is what the New World Translation and a lot of Protestant bibles are based on.
Although the Septuagint was accepted by 1st century Jews, it is believed that medieval Jews were not happy with the Septuagint, as it lent weight to the argument that pointed to Jesus as the messiah and they wanted to distinguish the Jewish tradition from Christianity.
Jesus and other new testament writers (whoever they were) quoted the Septuagint.
In an effort to support his own world view and to distance himself from the Catholic Church, Martin Luther chose the Masoretic text over the Septuagint on which to base his translation, which is ironic as the Masoretic text was written, partly to separate itself from Christianity.

This is just a quick overview. Im sure there are many on this site that could explain this topic more clearly. It really grates me that so many people around the world are fed this stuff without question and are taught their way is the only right way.
maybe this has been discussed in the past and i wasn't here... what do you think?
are the gb members knowingly pulling a con, or do they have delusions of grandeur?
i will go out on a limb here to say that i think they are con artist.
Tonus:
"And yet, learning years later about stuff that they knew, I can't fathom how they could be so loyal and faithful if they knew the things they knew. Were they really that good at deceiving everyone around them? I think they had deceived themselves, because I never got the impression (and in some cases, still do not) that they were being insincere."
Exactly-the only way for a GB member to remain loyal to the organisation is to be dishonest. They have to be in order to push beliefs that they know are false.
For an example of a high-level JW in action, remember watching Rod Spinks performance at the Royal Comission into child abuse?
Here it is for anyone that missed it:

bible says flood occurred approximately 4000 years ago.
that is about *200 generations of breeding to get to the population on earth now.
keep in mind that the population increase is geometric.
Using that poplulation calculator and starting with 6 people, it takes 4000 years to reach ~8 billion people at a growth rate of .527%.
That still doesnt explain how kangaroos and all their prehistoric ancestors are found only on the continent of Australia, which would have been all but impossible to reach by land post-flood.
Maybe the GB needs some help from the Spice Girls and their 'next generation commercials from the 90's.
